# Templates

Templates are used to define the content requirements per type of service.

Each service in the service catalog should be based on a Template. The template defines which fields are required at which lifecycle stage of a service. Additionally, a template defines what actions should be executed in case a service, based on that template, gets published, gets updated or gets retired. There are a number of events that can be configured for this.
